For a long time the DRGW used small brake pipes on passenger cars. The existing RPO's have small brake pipes still. A feature that concerned me when we were running an RPO car as a headend car for a 15 car train on Opening day in years gone by. Did 280 get converted to K brakes or does it have an old "P" triple valve?
It would appear the the signal line was installed to "trainline" the signal line through to other cars. According the the AFE records, the steam heat, signal lines and electrical lines were "trainlined" on the 284,306 & 320 to allow them to be used on modern passenger trains, but were not electically lit or had steam heat. I wonder if it had a steam heat line under it at one time?
