Some years back, and I don't recall the year, the Silverton town board decided that the ore loading dock at the end of 11th street was unsafe and was in the way of a projected street extension. So the fire department was more than happy to take on the task of burning the structure down, and we did make a local effort to save it, but the town had its way regardless. My brother and I went down to see the action, and my brother Richard took these photos. The dock was on the old Shennadoah spur, long gone, and I believe it dated from the 1930s. It burned rather quickly. It shows up in countless photos of the railroad, and these photos do show some construction details as the dirt loading ramp had been partially removed just prior to this event.
