That sounds like it was a lot of fun. I know that the C&TS will let you out on the platforms. Last October, my dad and I rode the platform from Toltec all the way to Antonito. Sure made the last few miles a lot better, having the wind in your face, and feeling like your riding just like in the old days. Had a nice talk with Bill Lock on the platform.
Too bad that the D&S has become so strict. And the passengers aren't much better. One woman asked my dad to close the window because she was "allergic" to smoke.
I sure would have loved to have been there 30 years ago.
