I'll sure go along with Rick on this...
Bob Richardson always made us feel welcome and the CRRM was always a good place to go on weekends or sometimes even spend part of a vacation...we always had a place to stay there, anytime. And there was always something to do as well. Many many satisfying days were spent there by many of us, and as Rick says, it was a fine introduction to railroading in general....especially railroading as it was in the old days....
As for myself, I had a good number of years on railroads after that time, both in train and engine service, spent some time as a switchman for the WPRR out in the waterfront district of SanFrancisco on the far end of the WPRR Oakland-SF ferry operation, and then put in a good nine years after I finished school in the D&RGW Communications Department, working all over the Rio Grande system, from Pueblo to Salt lake City and everywhere in between. But when the Steam engines and the Telegraph went away, railroading lost a lot of it's romance and appeal for me, and when I finally left I didn't miss the more "modern" railroading very much. The time I spent on the narrow gauge is priceless to me...what a wonderful way to get a real "hands-on" "taste" of what REAL mountain railroading is like.....nothing else like it anywhere.
Thank you Bob Richardson!
