Yeh I agree Jim that without swing it's utility was pretty limited, but the "Note" indicates the boom could be raised and lowered so this would have allowed a load to be lifted on or off a car if the unit was placed perpendicular to the track. I'll have to check the timing, but I think it was shortly after this unit was built that the rr built a portable rock crushing plant which would have to have been loaded or unloaded. They also built a screening plant which may have been used at Larch, as other AFE's mention ballasting with decomposed granite from Larch.
