That's correct Bret. The "gypsy" engines used on logging locomotives in the Sumpter area were all manufactured by the Lidgerwood Corp., who built a wide variety of logging machines. They were installed by the lumber company after the lokie arrived, and were probably traded back and forth between locomotives. I don't know if these engines were sold for other industrial operations, although the Lidgerwood we have at McEwen was last used to pull logs into a small steam sawmill.
BTW the name "gypsy" originated in northern California and was first applied to a locomotive specifically built for that purpose. The same cylindars powered the winch and the wheels. At least one example of this still exists in operable condition.
