You would be correct if your are talking about HARD-CORE VIDEO buyers, and HARD-CORE Train enthusiasts. However, the average joe could care less who made it, if they want the title, nor what lettering is on the tender of an engine as long as its taking them on their train ride.
Case in point, look at the multi-colored coaches on the 2006 C&TS trains. Still, with this hodge-podge they gained ridership from 2005....go figure!!!
My point with C&TS more than other railroads is that it should depict more historical aspects than some other railroads. Why? Because it was saved partially for that reason, and its state owned and operated. The D&S, and other lines are simply tourist railroads! That said the D&S has a pretty good track record recently of depicting its heritage...ie specials, Bumblebee 473, etc. When was the last time the C&TS did a railfan weekend, or some sort of heritage thing that the railroad sponsored? There have been privately sponsored things, but not company sponsored other than the Goose and Eureka which are not historical to the Cumbres route.
Again, the C&TS Cumbre Route is unique, like the Durango Line, Nevada Northern, and EBT, in that they have the exact locomotives that used to run on the same identical railroad today that they were built for. Not many places can claim that, so why not depict it on the engines? Anyone can be a tourist railroad, but few can be a throwback to their own heritage.
