Yes, the early design had a Royal Gorge style logo for the C&TS. Now all they need to do is
make it Rio Grande.
Randall's point is well taken, but in my mind MGM would be more well-known than Greg Scholl Video, so I would likely assume that name if I had the chance!!! Same for Rio Grande. Nobody can remember the C&TS name let alone pronounce it, unless you are enthusisasts like most of the folks who ride this board every day!!!
I do think that it would have been hard for the C&TS to use that name when in 1970, the Rio Grande still had their own NG operation, over there in Durango. Now that the D&S name is gone, to me the Rio Grande name is a possibility again, especially since Rio Grande is pretty much defunct from any rail operations these days.
The C&TS could be know as the Railroad of the "Rio Grande Locomotives and History". Marketing doesn't have to change, except maybe to get some added PR and TV time for making a cool change like this to make the public more aware of where the railroad came from.
Now that the C&TS is back on its feet, and had a good year(2006), with ridership up, track and engine work doing well, it might be the time to address this issue with the commissioners who are new, and perhaps will have a fresh outlook on this point. It surely won't cost that much to make the change. Most of the tenders get repainted every year anyway, and I am sure the Friends would be willing to do the tanks and other structures with the Herald, or flying RG.
Something to ponder for the hot stove league over the winter perhaps.
