We do travel with the stack on. There is some debate whether this is wise or not, but here is the reasoning. The locomotive is designed for a maximum speed of 40 mph. It is a safe assumption that it should be able to take a least a 10 mph headwind without failure. Therefore, if we travel at 45 mph in the trucks it should be alright. So, that is what we do. Maximum speed in the trucks is 50 with the locomotive. In 10 years of trucking the locomotive we have never had a problem. One should keep in mind clearances through underpasses and the like. Concrete at any speed doesn't give much.
