If any of you have had the chance to read "The Wreck of Penn Central" I think it would cement the opinion of Pearlmans detractors. He along with David Bevan and Saunders were just short of being crooks, and in many cases were crooks. Investing huge dollars in a phantom airline and buying 707's and 727's. His disdain for the commuter portion of the road was legandary, even when his own son complained of the deplorable conditions. Also his ability to not see the obvious problems that the road was headed down were inexcuseable. He ran the NYC down to such a degree that at the point of the merger, it was just a shadow of it's former self with huge portions suffering from years of defered maintainence. He hated the unions and the workforce in general. I found my copy of the book at a local antique store, but I think they may be available from used book stores.
