Michael,
I went through some of my correspondence collection and couldn't the particular letter I was searching from the late Don Rogers. Don's wife was closely related to Mr. Rice who was highly placed in the Rio Grande Motive Power Division in 1931 when Don went to work for the Grande testing water. I don't recall the number for sure - 1161 or 1163 (something like that)that was the last Grande SG under steam in Denver. At the conclusion of it's final day of service Rice had it stripped of number plate, indicators etc., and gave that material to Don. Those items are now on a wall in the Museum in Golden. Don had no children and was going to leave everything to the Scotish Rite Temple he belonged to for them to dispose of - over more than one vodka martini at the 440 Restaurant, I brought up the idea of giving the collection to some establishment that would appreciate it and make it available, such as the Museum. Anyway, in this 1973 era letter he mentioned Rice gave a few few loco bells to churches in the mountains and later said that "I should have saved a couple of 3600s."
