Pearlman wreck havoc everyplace he went. Look what he did back east?
The DRGW NG could have been run profitably and I have seen records of a full study showing that the purchase of 8 NG ALCO or GE locos could have done the trick. The #50 could pull what a 2-8-0 could and a GE-45 tonner in 3' gauge had the tractive effort of the C-25. A WP&Y DL-??? would have done the trick nicely replacing the K's.
Anyone who doubts that NG can make money need only look all over the world at the miles of 42" and Meter gauge RR's there are that are in the black.
Here in Australia 2 states are 100% NG, Queensland is 95% 42" and Western Australia is 50-50.
His crazy idea was that everyone thought the DRGW was all NG and were bypassing the bridge route the Grande was. He was more interested in the way things looked than the way things are.
Cheers
