Okay, if I recall this correctly, the railroad had plans (when it was under the control of the U.P.) to build a second loop above the current loop to reach this tunnel over even go up and over the pass. I believe they had even considered using Berthod Pass. I believe the other railroad lines and even the C&S South Park Line itself had put this to rest. Probably that and a decline in new mineral claims and declining values of silver and gold. I think I read this in a biography about (Edward?) Berthod.
