Three Shays?

Robert
October 10, 2006 08:06AM
If its about heritage, why doesn't Colorado return the three West Side Lumber shays......?
Besides the #12 and #14 Shays owned by the Ashbys, my poor memory is drawing a blank on a third one in Colorado. Could someone help me on that?
Incidentally, this brings to mind one of the most significant destructions done by the CHS in the Georgetown Loop debacle, and that's the ending of our opportunity to see the very rare Shay type locomotive in operation (except for the occasional runs at the Colorado Railroad Museum). This alone should never let us forget the unspeakable damage done by the CHS to the historic railroad community (whether one considers the true historic authenticity of Shays on the GTL or not). We have been deprived of one of the most exciting experiences of steam railroading, and even the very successful and laudable operations of present-day Railstar cannot make up for it!
