Taylor, a quarter mil really doesn't buy much anymore. A rather large new cookie cutter 3br house on a 1/2 acre postage stamp costs a quarter mil, so does about 1200 feet of new track. Hell, O.S. Engines wants $100K for their 7-1/2" ga 2-4-0 Hinkley...
As to that lokey's quirks, much will depend on WHY things aren't right. And also how much of the work you could do "in house". Some things are just easier to fix than others.
OTOH: If those little problems worry you so a perfect runner is your main concern, how about a SG chinese Mike, similar money and its only maybe 10 years old...how you narrow it down to 3ft is your problem, but hey, its been done before...

BTW I already work about 25 shows a year, just WHEN would I have time fr a 2000 mile roadtrip?
