Tim...with regard to the question of "were any appliances ripped of #74, for #9...I don't know but I would venture a guess. Few to none. Why? When I intervied Marlin at Strassburg, he said that over 100 patterns and castings were made in the Strassburg foundry for C&S #9. The largest was the front pilot beam extention for the coupler on #9 to poke out through the front of the snowplow pilot. That one was a 'bigeee'.
Also, consider that number 74 is going to be fully restorred. Why would you tear 74 a part, to furnish appliances to #9. It just doesn't make any sense to me. I could be wrong, but I don't think so.
