I find it odd that so much time was spent below "debating" the color of #9’s cab roof when Steve and his crew are already planning to paint it black. However the historical “zealots” have not attacked the natural, unpainted wood on this engine when there are no plans to change that. Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think this is any more historically correct then the red roof.
Why is the roof such a big deal when it is already going to be corrected but the natural wood is acceptable even when there are no plans to change this???????
Something doesn’t add up here. It seems to me that these defenders of historical accuracy are pushing some points very hard but ignoring others, which in my opinion makes them far worse then the people they are attacking.
So, were do these defenders of History draw the line? Once the roof on #9 is painted, will they bitch about the natural wood? After that do they go after the back up light? How about the fact that the #9 burns oil now? Why do they complain about 4th of July bunting on this engine when it’s not even pulling the correct tender? This could go on and on.
It seems to me that some of these people just love to complain, regardless of what has been accomplished. #9 has been rebuilt and is now operational. Add to this Steve T. has already committed to make the #9 as historically accurate as the current situation will allow. As far as I’m concerned, that is as good as it gets when dealing with an operational tourist railway. And make no mistake, that is what the Georgetown Loop is now and has been for the last 35 years.
Just an opinion.
