Gavin, found Welsh most kind when I was in north Wales when they found out I was a "Yank" instead of a "Brit". My Brit friend traveling with me seem to have a caustic comment or two about the Welsh and had been in Britain all his life and visited most of the foreign narrow gauges but had never been on the Talyllyn or Festiniog or VorR!! Because they were in Wales I suppose.
Welsh bought me beers and had a blast..they all wanted to talk about American cars in the pubs and was driving a Chrysler with a 440 c.i. V-8 in those day which amazed them (good American engines and you finish your cars so well).
Wales and crawling around the narrow gauge scenery was a blast for an American.
