Having operated over the Hwy 7 crossing several years before the gates were installed,
I can say I wouldn't want to lose them.
prior to them near misses were a common aspect of the operation,I have had several myself.
How you can miss a large steam locomotive bearing down at you is beyond me,but people do.
one problem in five years is a pretty good track record.
When I worked construction we had a man drive past four different signs posted at quarter mile intervals, over a row of cones and ran into the flagger.breaking his leg.The old guy told the cops"They should warn people when they,re working"
Unfortunately an overpass is the only safe way to go and some people could even screw that up!
