Some of my thoughts on this:
1. Antonito historically wasn't a "railroad town" like Chama was. So there's nothing really historic in town that has a connection to the railroad like places like Foster's in Chama does.
2. Its my observation that while most folks who live in the area appreciate the train, they are just too busy with their farming activities in the summer to worry about it.
3. While there are some nice "resort areas" down the Conejoes valley, they ignore as Antonito being the gateway to them.
There's a bunch of traffic on the highway through Antonito, but besides maybe stopping for gas or getting speeding tickets, Antonito doesn't see much fincancial benifit of that.
Outsiders like us could debate how this should all change, but I don't see any of us trying to invest our money there. I'm sure if you were interested, you could buy one of the motels or restaurants for a good prices. But nobody has gotten rich on tourism in the area so don't expect much to change.
