I have several theories. First is that there are more historical artifacts such as the rolling stock located in Chama. Also, there are the original structures such as the coal tipple, depot, and part of the roundhouse. Second, the riders would rather see the locomotives work going up the hill to Cumbres. And third, starting at Chama offers the chance to see double-headers.
