At the D&S for at least 50 years, "pinhead" refers to a new brakeman. I've seen this in glossaries of RR slang as applying at other locations also. Of course belittling the new guy has been a part of the "old head" RR tradition practiced by those who feel rather small and insignificant themselves.....
