Hi, Jim -
I really AM an outsider, and - other than my inate suspicion of lahrs (liars/lawyers) & gummint folks (I work for a County gummint myself - but as a technician, not a bureaucrat - and have seen from the inside how corrupt they can be), I have tried to be impartial, especially insofar as RailStar was concerned. Initially, I saw Railstar as the CHS' next victims, not as co-conspirators. And they will almost certainly eventually BE victims, if the CO state legislature doesn't do something about the CHS.
My college-age daughter and I rode the Loop last August, and thoroughly enjoyed both the train ride AND the mine tour, so still no bias one way or the other.
I met Phil Reader and Jeff Badger very casually during the Iron Horse Roundup in at the Santa Margarita ranch about two months ago. They were busy running the choo-choos and I was busy taking photos and playing car attendant/brakeman, so I didn't get to know them real well - but they are obviously pretty good guys. Later, Jeff showed his fun side in our NGDF exchanges regarding the St. Pauli Girls as car attendants on the GTLRR (and in keeping his boiler hot ...

[www.ngdiscussion.net]), so I'll have to admit I have grown somewhat more predjudiced ...
What really rattles my cage is betrayal of trust, whether by friends, my (now ex-) wife, or by an elected official. I can't do much about the Lying Son-of-a-Bush in Washington, but I have stood up against my own department chairman's dishonesty here at the County. (He couldn't find legitimate grounds to fire me, but did have my County e-mail privileges taken away ...) When the CHS' lies and cover-ups are so obvious that any reasonably analytical person living 1000 miles away can see through them, it is almost beyond belief that something hasn't been done.
I still feel a little sorry for the RailStar folks - they have allowed themselves to be suckered, and, sooner or later - are going to pay the price ...
