Orange Empire Railway Museum has two standard gauge heavyweight baggage cars. A now desceased member who once ran the toy train shop at Knott's Berry Farm bought the cars in 1969 to set up a display of toy trains, etc. This has become an intigral part of OERM.
When we went looking to repaint these cars in the 1980s we contacted the Rio Grande about colors. I'm told that the response was the paint was what ever they happened to be buying.
Well I have a copy of a paint and letter diagram for baggage cars dated April 6, 1950. The sides are called out as being "Orange Lacquer, Dupont Code 6479, Deck 620." The other colors are: Roof - Aluminum Enamel; Stripes, ends and letters - Black Enamel; lower sides - Aluminum Lacquer.
