For a while I worked with Ernie Ross ,head painter for the D&RGW .He told me when he painted the #268 and #473 Grande Gold that officials called it an "experiment" ,and if the color scheme looked good on the two locomotives and the three passenger cars(#212 ,306,and 320 I believe) the
entire roster of passenger equipment would be painted the same way . This included standard gauge steam and diesel .As we know ,the F-units and PA's were painted Grande Gold , but we know no standard gauge steam received the paint job .The design first appeared in 1950 .
