Thought I could clarify a detail or two on the subject!
The 464 was still sitting on a track next to the sand track lead in Dgo. in August of 1973. It sat south of a slew of old wheel sets and was the first and only time I saw it there on my first trip to Durango at a young age. I understand a gent by the name of Mike Reafsnyder(sp?) who was a Knott family member secured the deal and had it shipped to CA that same fall. They ditched the power reverse gear, took out the superheater header, gutted the boiler shell and installed new front and rear flue sheets, tubes etc.
The most difficult curve to negotiate at the Farm was just out of the Calico Square near what was "Gate 2". The engine caused considerable trouble not having the advantage of blind drivers like the C-19's.
I spent my high school years in Orange County and worked on the Knotts equipment for a year before moving to Dgo. but unfortunately just missed running the 464. It was sitting under steam the day I hired out there, and I think they killed it the next day!
