George, I've read your book mate, thumping good one at that, but it was several years ago and I've slept since then. Plus the idea of a shay to run on the RGS doesn't float with me either. As I remember they had a very nice (I exaggerate) C-19 and several C-16's that could have been used for this task and made better time. Or they could have bought one of the other 36" road locomotives that were floating around CO and UT at the time and saved the $$, an item always in short supply.
