Someday the Forest Service will build track back on a grade and open it as a public right of way for folks to bring their 3' gauge engines or equipment (goose) to play on the lines. I think that Lizard Head west 5 miles to Murphy would be the first choice of an open grade, with the interesting two trestles to rebuild. Then it could be extended north (east) 5 miles to Trout Lake and be open in the summer only. Everything would truck back to owners home in off-season. Various operators could use the track, and support groups could help maintain it, also getting chance to use work speeders in the process.
If the GG H Society of Dolores cannot get the right of way east of Glencoe, to reach Mancos, they should build to Glencoe and continue into the loop of the Montezuma Lumber Company, and the 3 switchbacks up to the mesa edge for a picnic grove. The landowner would be favorable to that usage of the land, which he intends to keep in wooded status for centuries to come. It would make for a great turn around spot if they cannot get through to Millwood or Mancos. It would offer the interesting Lost Canyon riding, then the interesting switchbacks, and long vista views overlooking the valley and distant San Juan Mts.
