In regard to building to DGO, the roadbed through Wildcat Canyon is all but totally under the current road.
If they can get to Mancos - which I think they have a better than 50% chance of doing eventually, that will probably be the perfect ride. Remember that lots of the RGS was often at odds with Mother Nature. The Lost Canyon ROW to Mancos was one of the less disaster prone on the RGS.
My personal hope, is that they build with steam train capacity in mind - even if it's just to host an occaisional visitor. They have the correct weight rail already, but the bridges would need to be built much stronger, than Goose only traffic, of course.
There are still 6 locos that could make an authentic RGS train - 20, 41, 42, 74, 463 and 464.
