I would bet that you could build on mostly old ROW to where Porter was west of Durango. The grade is relatively intact to just above the coal mine and runs through forrest service and private land. The branch to Mayday would probably be possible too. But I digress. Dolores to Mancos would probably be best, not too long a trip considering that there is only one Goose in Dolores right now. If only Telluride would give there bird up, then they could have a train from either end.
