Oct 2, was just about the end of the D&RGW's season. That explains the ghost town effect. I once played hooky from college classes at NAU in Flagstaff and went up to DGO for the wwekend in late Sept, 1976. Most of Silverton had already been boarded up for the winter.
Cool old shot of Rio Grande Land. The "Emporium" was a great place to buy Rio Grande Prospector pattern china. The DRGW passenger dept would send them barrels of china to peddle. You could get an entire place setting for about 5 bucks. BTW the Grande Palace served you dinner on Prospector china back then.
now I feel old.
