"P.O.M. is a term that may very well have been coined on the SVRy. It dates to the early days of the restoration effort and some sort of effort to give volunteers fancy job titles to make up for the low pay. Don't know who started it but for awhile everybody that was somebody had a badge or nameplate that said "Sup't of this" or "Mgr or that" or "director of something else". One outspoken and colorful old character (whose name I won't reveal here) was left out of the management parade for political reasons - or maybe nobody wanted to put him in charge of anything - anyhow he hand-lettered a name tag of his own as sort of a gotcha to the powers-that-be and wore it around on work weekends. It's become sort of an inside jole.
