John, that is exactly what we were thinking last weekend, when we began in earnest to put tracks to the new shop. If the tie is right you can sink the spike in four blows, but them damn oak ties sure make you sweat.
Sure was easier 30 years ago when we put the first wye in at Sumpter. Hell, I could work all day swing the spike maul, and then party that night.
Now, I can drive 6 spikes, rest 20 minutes, drive six more, and forget about the party, I'm lucky to make it the 22 miles to home without falling asleep.
Love it tho.
