“We (the railfan community) have already lost one of the best operators, crew and knowledge base of any operation in the country by the GLRR being booted. That is a fact.”
This fact is true. These people were one heck of a bunch of fantastic experienced folks. And we are all sad to see them go. And I bet Railstar would love them to stay. But they won’t work for them at the lower wages. I likely would not either.
I think the “People of Colorado” (which some on this list are), know that it is unfortunate that the Ashbys decided that the RFP from the state was not profitable for them. And chose not to place a bid. “The People of Colorado” are not naïve, but likely waiting to see what will happen. Maybe waiting to give the new company a chance. As there is no way to prove anything until opening day. Rail fans want steam the first day. But that won’t likely happen unless Railstar buys a NG lokie somewhere. There have been many rumors to possible deals but nothing substantiated.
But truly how many people won’t ride because it is not steam? There are many places that use diesel for their main motive power and do just fine. Although many of us don’t necessarily like what has happened. What do you think we should do? Meetings are held with opposition. Letters have been written to the Governor and CHS. But truly until the race even starts, there is no way to tell which horse will win.
