I would guess that the 28's never made it back to Gunnison after the War. My understanding is that the Valley Line trains were always dispatched from Salida. So, if the -3, the -6 or the -8 was free, it would not go north as the engine from Salida would make the return trip. That is not to say it didn't happen, however.
On a related note, why did the Grande switch the K-37's from Marshall Pass to Cumbres in exchange for the K-36's? I was surprised to discover recently that the engines tended to work as a group. This makes sense, I suppose, from a mechanical standpoint.
