Jeff this is a question I have never had dawn on me. I do not know when the last K28 operated on the 3rd Division but it is a very interesting question. To say a 470 never made it to Salida or to Gunnison in the last ten years of the valley line seems like a stretch to me. Maybe they didn't but when you figure work trains, officer specials snow trains etc. who knows. Wish I had all the train registers.
I was always told the 479 never operated on the Alamosa side but lo and behold we found a picture of 479 in Durango. Maybe a pic of one of the 470s will show up "off district" one of these days. It would be an interesting photo.
By the way I saw pictures this week of the rotary clearing what looked to be the Hunt Slide on the Silverton Branch probably in the early 40s, can't be sure of that date however. Back to the matter at hand, I will be forever looking for a pic of one of the 70s on the 3rd Division in the 40s. Have a good day.
