...most bike computers will calculate average speed as well as the maximum speed achieved on a trip. They also calculate "trip distance" as well as cumulative miles. Wouldn't that be handy? While there's no print-out for documentation purposes, it would provide credible instrumentation data that can be witnessed by other employees.
As was posted earlier, the name brand computers (Avocet, Cateye, Vetta) are very accurate when calibrated carefully. They're also cheap - @ $30 x 8 engines (includes the 483 and 492, of course), the C&TS would have state-of-the-art speedometers/odometers for its entire year 2002 motive power roster at a cost of about $250.
Or would that be for next year?
