Curtis,
Here is a good question for you. I was talking to Johnny Graybeal about the USATC engines tonight, and he has the list for the first set baldwin built in 1943. Engine #190, which is c/n 69425, and according to the army builders plate on the right side of the boiler was built in Feb.'43. The builders # 69425 is the lowest construction number for that particular. But according to the class #'s engine #190 is listed in the middle of the order. Her class # is 16 S 139. She was obviously not the first completed since she went out in April after the conversion to 36". Im curious how the Engine # was assigned, and the builders was assigned, both being the lowest # in the order, but her class # is well in the middle of the order. I believe her class # is 2-8-2 16 S 139. The first class # was 2-8-2 16 S 114. Which was engine 216.
