Didn't the gent who runs Multipower International (importer of Chinese locomotive parts, and Tangshan engines) own this locomotive at one point?
As for the gauge; the San Francisco cable cars were 42" gauge. (a few ran at Knotts Berry Farm for a time; one is at the Poway Midland RR, another I believe is in Perris at the OERM) Some anthracite mines/etc in the northeast used this gauge. The Porter at the local RR museum in Long Island is supposedly 40" gauge (anybody ever heard of that??). The rumor is it's actually 42", and the person that measured the gauge when they got the locomotive did so incorrectly. Chad O'Connor had a huge problem when the NPS argued that the track gauge was incorrect...when it in fact was, of course.
The Carroll Park & Western tourist line in Bloomsburg, PA (converted 0-4-0T and some coaches, now at the New Jersey Museum of Transport/Pine Creek RR and supposedly a basket case...and the Climax now at Roaring Camp)...I believe this was 48" gauge as well, could've been 42". Apparently in the 80s, some work was started (including removal of the old boiler) on it. Converting it back to 3' gauge is a chore, and the RC&BT crew already has four steam locomotives to maintain and a full enginehouse. Someone once mentioned the thought of instead gauging down to 3', gauging up to standard gauge to run to Santa Cruz!!
