Just like the courage it took to display the anti-GLR opinion...it also takes the courage to say "no" and walk away...
Again another rant based on my opinion and what I've seen; again...I'm just an outsider...
Picture being on an airplane while 10-year-olds kick the back of the seat; you have a 500-pound man next to you asleep with his arm taking up your entire tiny coach armrest...while snores and reeks as if you fueled a steam locomotive on roadkill...as he knocks over your Ginger Ale on your Armani suit...and this whole time you remain silent.
If the GLR just said "Okay...we'll take the RFP to be altruistic and keep the railroad alive)...they'd be holding in their silence. Implosive anger folks! Staying silent and not expressing what you want ends up in an explosive outrage!
While this is a general statement...CHS is the 500 pound man with body odor. This is just another way to look at it than my previous "rough water; breach of trust" analogy. If the GLR Inc. if they bid and were rewarded the RFP, they would have been the guy in the Armani suit in the cramped two-seater row with the 500-pound man with body odor (I bet that even if they DID bid that the CHS probably wouldn't have rewarded the contract to them because it is my understanding that the whole RFP bidding process was to get rid of the GLR Inc. after 30 sound years of operation over a personal stupid issue...). Sometimes you just have to let them know you aren't going to put up with their bulls***.
By walking away and not fighting the long battle any further, though it is a great loss to all, it was to the advantage of the company since apparently someone can't get Lee Behrens booted out of his office, or something else. Governor Owens didn't do jack squat either...which further supports the conspiracy theory as to why the local and state government was being completely ignorant and going along with the situation. Though this could result in a great loss for the area...blame it on CHS. The GLR Inc. and its loyal employees are a business and need to turn a profit. After all; less than 50 percent profits?! CHS owns the land; look who is the one maintaining the facilities and equipment! GLR Inc. has the mouths to feed of their employees and though we haven't heard anything from the source really I'm sure they found it to be the best decision.
As for why Lee Behrens wasn't booted...that question is up there along with the others such as "is there life after death" and "how can steam-hating diesel lovers exist?" (sorry...had to throw that in!) As said before, bringing personal feelings into the workplace is extremely unprofessional; the tombstone image doesn't say "Snuffed by that #$(@$* (replace that with any insult) Lee Behrens at the Colorado Historical Society".
