Re: DL&G 191

First of all let me repeat, the 191 has a
wrought iron boiler, and as such will never run
again with that boiler. It cannot be certified.
The boiler is in all probability the original
boiler, and as such is more historical.
Putting lagging on the boiler will only in-
crease the corrosion factor, as water will
get trapped underneath. There is only one
volunteer working on 191 and his time is limited.
As for the volunteers at the Museum, contact
Helen Townsend to volenteer, or better yet
show up about 10:00am Sat. mornings. We have
a big track project on going, And as noted
several cars do need a coat of paint. The wheels
on both #2 and #7 need to be machined, by machines we don't have(money). So if nothing
else get out your checkbook.
As Bob R said to Corney, when Corney mentioned
that there was a nice little engine over in
Montrose that should be saved "save it yourself"
If you don't do anything to help save the equip-
ment at the the Museum Don't sit there complaining
"nothing is being done" Our volunteers, at this
point are low in number, we have way to many
people who sign up, but never show up, or only
show once or twice, never to be seen again.
Money is always an issue at the Museum, we have
been sucessful in getting grants and such over
the last ten years or so, you must remember
Bob R. was totally against "goverment money"
and private grants. It wasn't until Bob left
that those monies were even applied for, it
takes time to establish a track record to
allow for more grants. I think we are now at
a point where we have a track record, and
some things will come easier. However, money
will always be an issue with the Museum.
346 and 318 were mentioned, 346 has had about $250,000 put into her in the last 2.5 years,
and will need another $50,000 plus to get her running. Both tenders are shot(346&318). We have
put $4-5000 into # 50. Even Thomas costs can exceed $10-15000. Down from the first year we
ran the event. We have just completed the move
of DRGW 3011 and two boxcars from storage at Coor's to the Museum plus moving the CM 29 to
the other side of the Museum building. This cost in the nieghborhood of $10,000
I am offened when you say that lack of money
is an excuse not to restore this or that. The
other complaint we hear is why don't you save this
or that. WHY don't you get off your butt and help!!!!
346 is scheduled to be back, this month.
