Paul,
The CRRM has, since the time of Bob Richardson, relied on volunteer labor for the restoration and maintenance of equipment. If this has changed, I'd truly like to know.
Since you are over at Mines, I would suggest that you contact the Museum about volunteering if you are that interested. There is always plenty to do. The last time that I was there, this summer, I saw projects that needed someone to take a piece of equipment under their wing (Like the Business Car K) and really give it a good thorough going over. If you are interested in freight equipment, there is the C&S Box and Reefer that need attention.
Locomotives? The 51/191 and the 318 are in desperate need of some TLC. In the case of the 51/191, it is a matter of some fake lagging (like styrofoam and "Great Stuff" foam to seal it) and a boiler jacket. Neither of these projects are that difficult, they are just time consuming.
The volunteers MAY actually have a project schedule organized, you might want to check there. Keith, their Roadmaster (a frequent poster here) and find out how to show up and volunteer.
Many of us that used to volunteer our time there have gone to work for various railroads or transportation authorities.
