I agree on both postings above; always wear long pants too, the looser they fit the better, because if they bite they'll bite into cotton, not your flesh. Wearing high&heavy shoes has another advantage, they make more noise and ground vibrations as you walk, giving the rattlers time to get away, out of your path. My advice if you see or hear one is to stay put, stamp on the ground with one foot 2 or 3 times, and they'll snake away.
