Boots & Snakes

August 16, 2000 11:18AM
Last Night After Lining A Switch Back When Our Train Took The Siding, I Encountered An Approx 21" Rattle Snake Along The Warm Rails. Almost Stepped On Him, So The 8" High Safety Toe Boots Give One Comfort In Knowing Your Toes Can't Be Bit.
His Life Was Spared, Cause He Crawled Directly Under The Switch Stand Ties. Now Tonight I'll Have To Be On The Lookout For Him !!!! Odd Thing Is That He Didn't "rattle" Or Coil Up For A "strike." Just Wanted To Get Out Of My Path.
There Are Field Mice Along The Tracks In This Area, Guess He Was Looking For Another Meal.
Good Advice For All Rail Fans Is To Watch For The "critters" Any Place Your Are Out Taking Pictures Or Walking The Track.
