Mr West- What do you recollect as to those oldie wood boxcars with the link & pin couplings? Roughly 24 feet long?
And can you remember anything about the OR&L boxcars? My surmise is that the FES didn’t bother with purchase and shipment of any of the old OR&L wooden rolling stock. My money says they bought the newest, most capacious cars, like the foreign ofdered rounded roof boxcars that were requisitioned and sent mostly to Hawaii and/or steel cars from the WW2 period. This was rolling stock that by 1950 the military had mostly given over to OR&L or sold for a song. Wouldn’t surprise me if OR&L crafted a smooth deal, finding out that FES was looking for good, fairly new rolling stock, then quietly bought unneeded cars from the military in Hawaii as surplus and immediately rolled them for a hefty profit.
