Rick,
As usual, a well thought out and presented post. Except I think you miss one glaring point ! Your argument and observations have been pointed up from every angle by anyone connected to the scene. This is a no brainer. The whole thing has got to be a smokescreen for something else. The CHS proposition / argument has more holes than a sewer drain. No one could make those statements who has the slightest grasp of the situation. This involves motives outside the scope presented. Of this, I have no doubt.
However, to combat the stupidity, ... IF it can be combatted at all, has got to be done with material just like your post ... concise, to the point, and maybe a little *tang* of "told-you-so" in there to catch the public's interest. How CAN the people of Colorado just slumber on and take a multi-million dollar enema, not only in cost outlay to replace an already in place, revenue producing entity, but also in lost revenues from the mighty tourist buck. If I lived anywhere near there, I'd be muy grumpy at the upcoming economic storm that was heading for my county. Tell me these people living there are not that stupid, ... please?
