The ex ESPEE 4-6-0 at Grapevine ( and Earl will recall this) 2248 has a replacement lapseam boiler that was put on at Sacramento about 1903 or so.
All of our baldwin logging engines, (the oldest built in 1906) have butt strap boilers. The FRA allows lap seams, but they have to be examined, inside and out, with special attention, annually.
