John,
While your suggestion of bringing GLRR #15 to the C&TS is admirable, it currently has a home at the CRRM.
I have it on good, first hand information that the folks at GLRR have NO desire to send ANY of their equipment to the C&TS at the present time. Nothing personal here but the C&TS is just too hard on equipment. I really don't mean any disrespect to the C&TS folks. I have just as much concern for them as I do the GLRR, but the C&TS operating conditions are just more demanding.
Comparing the condition of both units this summer shows #19 to be well-battered from hard use (bent steps, busted radiator grill, traction motor abuse, etc, etc). In contrast, the #15 is at the CRRM in VERY good condition. I seen them in person. John Hammond and his crews have been instrumental in keeping #15 as well as the other two GLRR diesels in top condition. The Ashby-Greska's and the GLRR crew have no desire to see their equipment, steam, diesel, or otherwise, used and abused on the C&TS.
Besides, one more non-turbocharged, non-mu capable diesel is really not a good investment for the C&TS. Been through this discussion before here and other boards. Best to stop dreaming about the #15 showing up in Chama-Antonito anytime in the near future.
I don't normally post anonymously, but for obvious reasons here, I am posting this as such. I have friends in both camps and I don't care to p*** any of them off. What is, is what is, period.
As an aside, thanks a bunch Curt for taking the time to setup the C&TS equipment roster page. It is very much appreciated.
