Thanks for the compliments!
The right of way of the Converse Hoist from the top of Hoist Ridge to the bottom of the hoist is totally covered in brush and cannot be hiked. A Forest Service road (13S58) drops off Hoist Ridge towards Abbott Creek and eventually reaches the bottom of the Converse Hoist and then follows the Sequoia Railroad grade down to Millwood. A word of warning if you head down this road: the first two miles are very steep and high ground clearance is a must. Four wheel drive is not necessary to descend but would be required to climb back up. There was evidence at one steep spot that someone had slid backwards off a steep section into a ditch.
Here we are at the bottom of the Converse Hoist:
Here's what this location looked like over 100 years ago:
There was very little evidence to show the hoist had existed. Here's a timber set into the ground:
Nearby was a barrel hoop:
Another artifact was part of a Carnegie Brick:
The Carnegie Brick plant was located in the town of Carnegie, CA. This plant operated from 1895 - 1912 as was located about 15 miles from my home.
