Another good tale of the lost locomotives is the story of S.P. #1, the C.P. Huntington. The C.P. Huntington was built in the east and was shipped around the Cape Horn to Sacramento where it was used in the construction of the Central Pacific. Some time about the turn of the century some S.P. official ordered the locomotive scrapped but the shop men realized its historical significance. The hid the little engine in a shop and stacked junk parts around it! About 20 years later they rolled it out of the shop and it remains to this day.
